Art

Welcome to the art department.

Key Stage 3 (KS3)

At KS3 we aim to develop technical skills covering a range of projects to provide a variety of opportunities to improve understanding and method.

Pupils have 2 hours of Art a fortnight.

Year 7

In year 7 pupils undertake a still life project where we teach the basics including the seven elements of Art. Pupils learn how to draw and shade along with collage and presentation techniques. They then complete a Colour project exploring a wider range of media.

Year 8

In year 8 we explore Landscapes and pupils learn the differences between Urban and Rural. They will study their local landscapes and develop a final piece based on pebble art.

Year 9

In year 9 pupils undertake a Graffiti project where we look at modern street art and pupils explore lettering and contemporary Art. This project ends with pupils designing their own ‘TAG’ and creating a graffiti style clay tile.

Key Stage 4 (KS4)

At Bedwas High School we offer WJEC GCSE Art & Design.

Pupils have 5 hours of Art a fortnight.

The course starts with teacher led workshops covering a variety of media and techniques then progresses into tutorial based lessons. Pupils choose their own theme to study based on individual interests. The course is 60% Coursework which runs from September Year 10 to Christmas in Year 11. The pupils will then be given an exam booklet where they choose a separate theme and complete a project of work based on this. They have a 10 hour exam in April to make their final piece. Their exam and preparation work makes up the final 40%.

Key Stage 5 (KS5)

Pupils have 8 hours of Art a fortnight.

Year 12
