The Welsh Department at Bedwas High School is a successful and vibrant department. It carries on the good work carried out in the cluster Primary schools helping pupils to further develop their skills of oracy, reading and writing.
In years 7 and 8, pupils develop their communication skills through the medium of Welsh, such as being able to talk about their lives, hobbies, friends and family and media. In year 9 pupils are preparing for their GCSE Welsh and completing 25% of their GCSE qualification. They complete the remainder of their Full Course Welsh qualification in KS4. Studying the Welsh language gives pupils an opportunity to develop a passion for their heritage and culture.
We hold a successful Eisteddfod annually at the end of the year that is filled with talented students and hardworking staff. Pupils are given the opportunity to attend the Urdd camps at Llangrannog (West Wales) and Glan Llyn (Bala, North Wales). This allows them to participate in adventure activities and develop their day to day usage of the Welsh Language.
