Headteacher's Welcome
Mr Martin Hulland - Executive Headteacher
Croeso!
A warm welcome to Bedwas High School.
I would like to introduce myself as the Executive Headteacher of Bedwas High School. I have been in post since April 2026 at the request of the Local Authority. Mr. Diehl, Headteacher since 2019, has recently left his post and I want to pay tribute to his dedication and commitment to the students of the school over many years.
I would like to thank you for the interest you have shown in Bedwas High School. I hope that you will find the information on our website informative and that you are able to gain a real sense of what makes our school so special. We are committed to providing an outstanding education and we are passionate about the potential of every student and every member of staff. The Governors and a strong, highly committed staff team have very high expectations and work hard to provide the best opportunities for our young people.
We stand by our tradition of ‘caring and achieving’ with the aim that each pupil has the support and opportunity to fulfil their potential. Our school campus is a happy, stimulating, and safe environment and we are extremely proud of our students' involvement in a whole range of activities including sport, performing arts, languages, science, technology, community, and charitable work.
Our Sixth Form offers a wide range of subjects as well as extra-curricular opportunities, careers information, education and guidance, academic and pastoral support which prepare students comprehensively for their next stage in learning. We support all our students, including Oxbridge candidates, Russell Group university candidates and applicants for highly regarded apprenticeships, in ensuring they successfully meet the criteria for the next stage in their academic careers.
We are always keen to welcome visitors and work with our local community. The quality of our relationships with pupils and their parents/carers is important to us and I look forward to welcoming you as part of our school community. Estyn recently stated “Bedwas High School provides a supportive environment where most pupils feel safe. Many pupils demonstrate positive attitudes to learning and benefit from positive relationships with staff. Most pupils are courteous, respectful and behave well in lessons and around the school.”
I am very privileged to be the Executive Headteacher of Bedwas High School. My aim over the next year is to be implement the Post Inspection action Plan and provide the necessary long-term strategic direction for Bedwas High School. This will allow us to ensure that all our pupils achieve their full potential. The school has many strengths; however, we must address the Estyn Recommendations linked to pupil progress, skills, and leadership. I am determined to work honestly and diligently with all stakeholders to ensure that Bedwas High School is the very best version of itself.
